Unattended Scattering of Ashes at Sea

Unattended Ash Scattering – Affordable Sea Burial by Licensed Captain
Our unattended ash scattering at sea service is a respectful and cost-effective option for families who are unable to attend in person but still wish to honor a loved one’s final wishes for a peaceful sea burial. The scattering of cremated remains—also known as cremains—is conducted with dignity by our licensed Captain and professional crew in a pre-selected ocean location. Each marine ash scattering includes precise latitude and longitude coordinates, allowing family and friends to visit or commemorate the site at any time in the future.
This unattended sea scattering service is our most affordable cremation at sea option, offering a simple yet respectful alternative to traditional burial. Upon receiving the cremains, we ensure professional and compassionate handling. The cremation ashes are typically scattered within 30 days of receipt, and a personalized certificate is mailed to the family detailing the exact time, date, and GPS location of the scattering ceremony.
Cremated remains can be shipped via United States Postal Service (USPS) using their Cremated Remains Mail Kit, as other carriers do not support this specialized service. For local families, in-person drop-off is also available. Our eco-friendly, maritime ash scattering services are designed to bring peace of mind and lasting tribute to those who have passed.
Price Includes:
- Required EPA Filing of Permit
- Official LIBC Sea Certificate marking coordinates (Latitude & Longitude) scattering of cremains
- Rate for this service is $300.
Steps
Step 1:
Call Long Island Boat Charters to set up the scattering of cremated remains.
You can either have them shipped directly to our office or bring the ashes down in person.
Step 2:
Packaging.
The cremation remains container/urn must be placed into leak proof packaging (plastic bag), boxed, and sealed (taped). This box must be placed into a secondary shipping box and sealed. Make sure to place packing material (bubble wrap, foam, paper, etc.) into the shipping box to reduce internal movement.
Step 3:
Shipping
The United States Postal Service Registered Mail is the only way to ship cremated remains.
Fill out the Registered Mail shipping label with both the shipping and return address.
The card will be mailed to you with the signature of the person who received the cremation remains.
Step 4:
Identify and declare the package DOES contain cremated remains.
This must be noted on the addressed side of the shipping box.
Step 5:
In a separate attached envelope please fill out and enclose the “Unattended Disposition of Remains Authorization“ which is also included on this page for printing.
Step 6:
Go to the nearest post office and ship the cremation remains via Registered Mail.
